KELLY BEEKMAN
Pathways of Creation
November 14 – December 20, 2026

Lightforms Art Center is pleased to present an exhibition of textiles and paintings by Kelly Beekman, an artist and educator whose work explores the forces of change, growth, and development in the physical and non-physical world. Rooted in Anthroposophy, Waldorf Education, and an interest in the healing power of color, Beekman's artistic practice investigates the relationship between creativity, human development, and the processes of creation. Through color, texture, and natural fibers, she seeks to represent both the visible substances of nature and the unseen forces that influence them.

“I contemplate the forces of change, growth and development in the physical and the non-physical world, on the cosmic and earthly levels, through inner and outer experiences,” Beekman writes. Her artistic practice is rooted in an understanding of creativity as a way of participating in the larger forces of nature and the cosmos. “I believe that my thoughts and imagination connect me to these grand forces, and I, too, can wield these forces (by small degrees) through my creative process. I become part of the world creation story.”

Her work seeks to capture the qualities of each subject through color and texture, connecting physical substances with the processes that bring them into being. “I strive to step just beyond the boundary of what might be called intellectual diagrams and into imaginations that spark questions and personal inquiry within the heart of the viewer,” she explains.

After years of traditional painting and drawing, Beekman began exploring textiles in 2018. “I began to draw with thread,” she writes. “I have found the slow pace and the textural qualities of the natural fibers feed my own tactile needs and delight the eye with its sculptural surfaces and creative color interactions.”

The exhibition brings together Beekman's textiles and paintings, exploring the expressive qualities of color across different media. Her textured compositions emphasize the tactile properties of natural fibers, while her paintings investigate relationships between color, form, and processes of growth and transformation.

Beekman's artistic practice is informed by Anthroposophy, Waldorf Education, and art therapy practices. For more than twenty years, she has worked as a Waldorf educator, teacher trainer, and mentor, exploring the relationship between artistic creativity and human development. She studied studio art at Bowdoin College and earned a master's degree in Elementary Education and Waldorf Education from Antioch University New England. In 2025, she completed a three-year certificate in Anthroposophic Psychology, furthering her longstanding interest in the connections between inner experience, creative expression, and the processes of growth and transformation. She currently maintains her artistic practice in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.

This exhibition is curated by Finnish artist Sampsa Pirtola and presented in collaboration with Rudolf Steiner Library (www.rudolfsteinerlibrary.org).
