EMILY FECSKO
Holonies
June 19-July 26, 2026
Holonies is a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by Emily Fecsko. Pendulating between the smallest of moments, the world created in a breath or a sentence, Emily strives toward a completeness in her works.
The broad stroke, the willful expanse of redness across the canvas, lays the ground. Ambiguous and untethered marks, free from concept, begin to dictate the frame and build the container for an image to emerge. Much like nature lays the ground for our reality and paints the realm of our perception, the intuitive stroke of color on a canvas is a movement in accordance with the universe. An attempt to co-create with the boundless energy of the space.
And just as the human embodies narrative in this grand scene, the refinement of the image, often with smaller brushes and more intentional mark-making, begins to converse with the space. Where is the light source? Where does this form end and the other begin? Through the answering of these questions, familiar forms begin to emerge: plants, birds, folds of fabric, skin.
These forms serve as an invitation– a starting point rooted in our shared reality, from which a world is woven that stirs internal recognition. This flow between the macro and the micro and the embodied engagement in it through painting brings Emily into a deeper relationship with the act of becoming. The artifacts of this engagement have a quality that also allows the viewer to take part in this becoming, as scrying in the forms activates an inner experience.
The term holony, or the quality of a system being holonic is a picture of a whole being part of a greater whole, being part of a greater whole, and so on. It is a term, a truth, that Emily investigates in her work. While the selected paintings and drawings in this exhibition span different chapters and environments, they are united by a singular process: a striving to commune with the rhythms of dying and becoming, of dissipation and emergence. As dying gives way to becoming, the day gives way to the night, which gives way to the day... eternal holonies.
