LAURA ARTEAGA CHARLTON
Gegenraum: Meditations on Etheric Space
May 16-June 7, 2026
Gegenraum: Meditations on Etheric Space is a solo exhibition of monoprints by Laura Arteaga Charlton. The works in this series emerge from an intuitive exploration of the formative, etheric forces that shape the physical world, cultivating an inner experience of how these forces work in the mineral and plant kingdoms.
In this body of work, Charlton approaches monotype printing as both a material and perceptual practice. Drawing on her extensive experience in painting and printmaking, she engages the press, surface, and matrix as sites of transformation. The resulting works reflect a dynamic interplay between control and spontaneity, where image and material continually inform one another through acts of transfer, pressure, and revision.
Charlton is a visual artist and printmaker currently based in South Florida. Her early education in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the Emerson Waldorf School provided a formative foundation in observation, craft, and holistic approaches to learning. In 2008, she completed a foundation year in painting and anthroposophy at the NeueKUNSTschule in Basel, Switzerland, before earning a BFA in Painting with a minor in German Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010.
Following her studies, Charlton spent a decade in New York City, where she developed a multifaceted professional practice within the field of printmaking and contemporary art. She worked as a collaborative printer at the Lower East Side Printshop, served as a teaching assistant in printmaking at Princeton University, and contributed to exhibition design and production at the Museum of Modern Art. This period deeply informed her understanding of technical precision, collaborative process, and the expanded possibilities of printed image-making.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including presentations in France, Austria, and the United Kingdom, as well as in the United States at venues such as Future Fair NY with Arden & White Gallery, RULE Gallery, LIGHT Art & Design and Oneoneone Gallery in North Carolina, The Painting Center (New York), Transmitter Gallery (Brooklyn), and the International Print Center New York.
This exhibition is curated by Finnish artist Sampsa Pirtola and presented in collaboration with Rudolf Steiner Library (www.rudolfsteinerlibrary.org). This exhibition is open Thur–Sun, 1–5pm.
