RICHARD NEAL

My connection to artistic work began at the age of 15 when I saw a print of Claude Monet’s painting “Impression: soleil”. Since then I have been fascinated by the world of color. This has been complemented by my love of nature and the endless expressions of the movement of light and color.

The current photographs and paintings are all born from a recent trip out West to photograph lightning in the desert and to explore a series of slot canyons. While there I did a lot of photography but also a series of small watercolors to “capture’ a few of my impressions of the movement of light in these particular environments.

The paintings all start with some impression – light falling across stone, a landscape form, but that only serves as a starting point. The painting process itself becomes it’s own journey then to an image.
